Family Carers Ireland (FCI) is the national charity that supports more than 500,000 people throughout Ireland who care for loved ones such as children or adults with physical or intellectual disabilities, frail older people, those with palliative care needs or those living with chronic illnesses or addiction. FCI’s goals are to ensure that every family carer has the support and services they need: to provide care; to advocate for their entitlements; and to know that they are not alone. FCI’s vision is for an Ireland in which family carers are properly recognised, supported and empowered.
As a member of the Executive Management Team, reporting to the CEO and working closely with key stakeholders and funders, the Head of Carer Supports will lead and grow a high performing national team motivated by purpose and clear goals to continuously develop our Carer Supports framework.
FCI’s Carer Supports team engages with each family carer as an individual who is not defined solely by their caring role. It strives to ensure that they always feel listened to, valued, supported and empowered in their caring journey. It recognises that family carers are experts by experience and our support activities seek to empower and build resilient caring routines rather than dependence.
The ideal candidate will come from a Social Care / Community Development background, display good judgement and comfortably live FCI’s values: (Quality, Innovation, Teamwork and Integrity). They will model the behaviours of an inclusive leader who brings clarity and structure to the team, continuously improving the approach to deliver a consistent, high-quality service and help simplify a naturally complex environment for the team. Through their coaching style they will create a culture of empowering relationships with and among family carers to sustain and build resilience. Their experience will include the ability to leverage social media and a profile that will help disseminate information about FCI services. They will demonstrate team leadership and change management experience, the use of technology to support the team and a good understanding of the HSE Community Health structures.
