I’m part of a dynamic team of tax professionals at PwC. We work together to help clients navigate the ever-changing tax environment. My role is heavily focused on international tax, which means I get to collaborate with other PwC offices abroad and even travel. I also work with clients looking to invest in the ESG space, a market that’s gaining momentum. The variety in my role keeps things interesting—no two days are the same.
I studied Commerce at UCD and later pursued my Masters in Accounting at Smurfit Business School. After university, I joined PwC through the Graduate Programme. I spent six years in the Tax DIO (Domestic and International Outbound) team before taking a brief detour to explore roles in the travel and retail sectors for a couple of years.
I decided to return to PwC because I appreciated what a great place it was to work. I missed the dynamic, ever-changing and ever-learning work environment. Knowing that the doors were always open for me to return was comforting.
In DIO, I worked with some fantastic Irish businesses and private equity firms. When I returned, I decided to move to financial services for a new challenge. Now, I’m a Senior Manager in the financial services team, and I really enjoy the new challenges and learning opportunities.
Throughout my time at PwC, I’ve benefited from numerous training and development opportunities. I’ve completed my ACA and AITI exams and attended training courses in Madrid, Prague and Dublin. These courses were tax-specific but included soft skills training too. I’m constantly learning from the people around me, which is a part of the job I really enjoy.
PwC’s culture and work environment are unmatched, and it’s one of the reasons I returned. The firm really focuses on listening to employees’ needs and wants. I love coming to work every day and really value the diversity and openness of the culture here. The working environment is flexible, and so many resources are available to help me do my job well.
The firm’s ‘Everyday Flexibility’ policy has also been a game-changer for me. It’s been well received by everyone in the firm and gives me a feeling of appreciation and recognition from our leadership. It’s allowed me to balance my work and personal life during the week, freeing my weekends from ‘life admin’.
But the best part about working at PwC is the people and the work. I’m surrounded by extraordinary colleagues, and the work is varied and dynamic. Projects can be complex and demanding at times, but there’s always support and every project helps me grow professionally.
If someone I know was considering joining PwC, I’d tell them to go for it. Every day is different, and you’ll find yourself working on projects with clients you never thought possible. You can shape your job around your life needs, work with wonderful colleagues and make great friends. Most importantly, PwC is such an open place to work. No issue is too big or small, and there’s always someone to help when you need it.
