Meet Bachi

As a Senior Manager within PwC Ireland’s Transfer Pricing team, I have the privilege of working with Ireland’s largest transfer pricing team. Our work encompasses the full transfer pricing lifecycle, from helping multinational companies design operating models to implementing these models and defending against challenges by tax authorities. We also work with clients to ensure compliance through robust and tailored documentation of intercompany arrangements.

My day-to-day responsibilities involve collaborating primarily with inbound multinationals and large Irish public limited companies (PLCs), addressing complex strategic and operational transfer pricing issues. Due to the extensive reach of my clients, I frequently work with stakeholders and teams across different countries. This mainly includes tax managers and senior managers, heads of tax and/or heads of transfer pricing, and chief financial officers (CFOs). I also work very closely with my corporate tax, VAT, customs and tax controversy colleagues in my role.

I graduated from the University of Dodoma with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. My professional journey began at PwC, inspired by young professionals who visited my college for graduate recruitment. I joined PwC Tanzania’s Tax department as a graduate in 2012, focusing on inbound companies operating across East Africa. By 2015, I had qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK (ACCA).

After more than three years in Tanzania, I was nominated for the World Experience Programme — an 18-month leadership initiative that brought together key talent from PwC offices worldwide in London. The programme allowed me to sharpen both my technical and leadership skills while supporting me in broadening my professional network. My secondment was, however, extended to a permanent contract with PwC UK. In London, I worked with the Inbound FTSE100 team and at the same time pursued an Advanced Diploma in International Tax from the Chartered Institute of Taxation (UK). I also participated in PwC’s Leaders in Tax programme.

In 2020, I joined PwC Ireland’s Transfer Pricing team, concentrating predominantly on the technology and pharmaceutical sectors. The following year, I was seconded to a client’s in-house Tax team, where I managed tax compliance and disputes for various territories. After eight months, I returned to PwC Dublin and now lead several key accounts within the team.

PwC has provided me with numerous training and development opportunities. I am constantly being challenged to invest in my technical skills, harness my creative skills and upskill for the latest technological trends such as artificial intelligence, all the while working with a community of solvers addressing complex problems every day.

The culture at PwC is highly inclusive. The teams I have worked with foster diversity of perspective, largely due to the breadth of international experience they bring to the table. There is a genuine team spirit, and we care for each other’s well being and development. The working environment is collaborative, and leaders always encourage innovative ideas.

The firm’s Empowered Working Day policy has helped me achieve work-life balance, especially since becoming a first-time parent last year. The flexibility has allowed me to manage my work while being available for my family. The ‘work from anywhere’ policy has also been very helpful, allowing me to visit my extended family and friends in Tanzania and work from anywhere for up to 30 days.

The best thing about working at PwC is the people. You always feel supported and have brilliant colleagues and clients to learn from. The unlimited opportunities to progress one’s career in different directions are also a significant advantage.

If someone I know were considering joining PwC, I would tell them that PwC Ireland is a fantastic place to work and develop your skillset. I initially moved here on secondment but ended up convincing my wife to join me, and we have now made Ireland our permanent home. There are plenty of opportunities in the team, and the Irish people are very welcoming. The social life is also very good and there is lots to do.

“At PwC, there are unlimited opportunities for growth and career progression. I’ve had the chance to work in various countries and continuously develop my skills."
